Supplier Magneti Marelli says with problems with the electronics on the 2014 cars that all teams are experiencing, that it is possible no team will complete the Australian GP. Quite a jab and not likely but who knows how many are going to make it.

I set an over/under at 8.5 and took the under. Nobody else other than NBC's lead broadcaster Leigh Diffey has taken the under in my little poll. I don't think Lotus or Red Bull have a prayer of completing the race. Marussia is very unlikely. I would hazard a guess half of the other 8 teams DNF at least 1 car which means you've only got 8 left running... or less.

Italian electronics causing failure? Never!
Welcome to my world F1. I got a soldering iron, a hammer and duct tape for you to borrow if you need it

This is bullshit. Half of the teams ran well during testing and ran enough laps strung together so that they will finish it. I'm betting most of the Renault cars won't finish and maybe one of the Ferrari's. But the Mercedes powered teams should be good.

Agree.

Bullshit. We will see more than 10 teams finishing. I am not saying they will finish close to the leader or trouble free, but it is possible to finish if you sacrifice some speed.

Not quite sure how duct taping a hammer to a soldering iron will fix Italian electronics, but hey I still can't figure out where the blinker fluid goes

beat offending piece with hammer, solder back together, duct tape the case back together. Better than stock

What? Magnetti Marelli systems malfuctioning? Impossible!
*I actually own a MM-Weber injected car. The injector warning light and I are very good friends.

I'm still putting the over/under at five of the starting cars not finishing. I'm also pretty convinced that there will be fewer than 22 starters.

Came here to post this, didn't leave disappointed.

Yeah, really. Harley dumped their fuel injection systems after one year cause they had so many problems with them

Sauber and Marussia both had their fair share of problems. At the end of the test so did the Mercedes works team. I don't think anyone is safe at this point. I think the Mercedes teams will be generally more reliable but the idea that all 8 of them will finish is silly.

Grosjean is quoted in an article as saying even if they sacrifice speed they still don't expect to finish the race.

I don't buy that. There will probably be retirements from Renault engined car, maybe a couple of people mucking up their fuelling and running out of juice.
I wonder what the attrition rate was for the first race the last time they had a big rule change.

Oh no I don't think that all of them will finish, I just think that teams will finish. There have been times in F1 where teams thought they were going to just blow up then won the GP. I have a sneaking suspicion that RedBull will have turned it around before Australia.

The same Red Bull that went to Toro Rosso for help last week?

Sandbagging? I just would never count out Newey and Horner. But I don't think they will win. I think that will be between Massa, Hamilton, Button, Magnussen, Rosberg, Alonso, and Raikkonen.

From what I can tell the Ferrari lacks the pace to compete with Mercedes and Williams and McLaren is just a hair off the pace. That said if there are mechanical problems it is anyone's game. I think Force India will prove to be faster than the Ferrari works team at the first race.

I think Force India will surprise a few this year too. McLaren with Dennis back at the helm will surely be a force to be reckoned with.

While it is superbly unlikely it would ever happen, I still would like to see it actually do.
